How to Write & Sell a Nonfiction Book
Since 1991 I have written 12 titles published by McGraw-Hill, AMACOM, and Perseus. These are "refereed books" as opposed to self-published. Altogether I have earned more than $2.5 million dollars in royalties, and my first book, originally published in 1991, is now out in a sixth edition. My books have been translated into Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Chinese, and Lithuanian.
In this masterclass I will walk you though the approach I used to achieve this. I will also discuss self-publishing (I've done that too) and the pitfalls you should avoid. Join me for a very personal session in which you can ask questions and get answers from a real author. Whether you want to write your life story, a how-to book, or a discovery exposition, this course will provide you with the step-by-step approach to success.
The video is by another author who offers some excellent tips on writing. You might ask why I included ideas from a competitor. It's simple. I want you to be successful and I don't have all of the answers. Enjoy the video.

Following are some of the things you will learn in this action-packed workshop. In addition, if you submit questions ahead of time, I will answer those for everyone during the class.
This is a very hands-on class. My objective is to help each of you become published authors. Enjoy the video even if you don't attend my program.
Mindmapping your book
Linear outlines are okay, but mindmapping is more flexible and can be modified as you go along.
Avoiding writer's block
You can't create and edit at the same time--it will drive you bonkers. Write, then edit!
Pros & cons of writer's groups
I have belonged to them. They can be helpful, but they can also destroy your confidence.
Choosing a writing style
Should you be conversational, chatty, formal, or academic? It depends on your audience.
Write easy parts first
Getting into the flow is important. If you start with hard chapters, you may doom yourself. Be kind.
Learn from the best but don't compare
When I read Ken Follett or listen to Segovia on guitar, I want to hang up my computer and my guitar.
Generating ideas through SCAMPER
Writing is a creative endeavor, so why not take advantage of creativity enhancing methods?
10 Pages a day
If you discipline yourself to write 10 pages a day, you'll have 300 pages in a month (assuming 7 days a wk)
Perfection will paralyze you
The perfect book hasn't been written. Learn to satisfice. You will never finish a perfect book.
